Sweet 16 Traditons:
Tiara Ceremony - The birthday girl sits on a chair as the girls father, uncle, grandfather (etc) approaches the young woman with a tiara. This symbolizes the girl becoming a woman.
Candle Lighting Ceremony - A ceremony in which the birthday girl lights 16 special candles. Each candle represents parents, siblings, family members, friends, best friends and significant others. Sometimes a 17th candle is lit for good luck.
Father-Daughter Dance - This is a simple tradition (similar to a wedding tradition) where the father and the birthday girl share a special dance. Generally the dance floor is cleared and the guests watch.
Video Montage - This is a special video prepared for the birthday girl. Viewed during the Sweet 16 party, this video includes clips of special memories that the young woman can reflect upon.
